hey guys what's going on today welcome back to newcraft Workshop my name is Tim and today I just want to do a quick video give you guys an idea of some money you can save by buying some products on Amazon versus your big box stores and your specialty stores so I'm just going to go over five little tools that I have bought or I buy regularly from Amazon quality is just as good as anything you're going to pay name brand for but you're going to do it at a lot of the savings so the first thing I want to show you guys is this engineering Square there is a company out there that makes some really nice tools and they anodise them red and I know you guys know who I'm talking about I don't use this for anything other than squaring up when I am building more mostly cabinets um you could get a dedicated smaller square like this from that other company it is literally half the size size and it's $30 this was $7.98 and I want to show you guys we can take a piece of known straight wood and we can do the alternating drawing a line we can draw this line and then this line and I'm going to show you guys hopefully you can see this on this camera those lines are exactly parallel I could probably get a micrometer out on this but what's the point for what I use this for if I'm that precise I'm good I don't need to spend $30 on a small square that serves no purpose other than squaring up my Cabinetry joints so this right here $7 98 on Amazon for what I use it for it's just as good as anything I could buy for three times the cost okay the next thing I want to show you guys that I use a ton of here on newcraft Workshop is pocket hole screws so this is your standard one and one4 inch Craig style pocket hole screw this is not stainless it's just your standard screw now you can get a 250 count pack of these on Amazon for $16 works out to be about 6 cents a screw if you buy these at Home Depot they sell them 100 at a time for $10 so 250 these at The Big Box store are going to run you about $25 if my math is right I use a brand off of Amazon right here I get these I buy them in the 600 count quantity because that's where the best price point is for some reason I can get 600 of these winds up being $25 which is about four cents a screw two cents a screw savings over the Craig and I can assure you if you were put these side by side you're not going to be able to tell the difference I've been using these things for years not had any problems with these screws at all so save yourself for money if you are using a ton of pocket hole screws check out the Amazon brand Down Below in the links I'm telling you it's definitely worth saving some money all right so the next thing we need to talk about is going to be some trra and trra accessories I have used trra in my shop for the past few years unfortunately I used way too much of it when I built my workbench but another story for another day but trra is great when it comes to things like this this is our latest build this is our miter sled for our table saw this TR trck will accept Rockler trra accessories and the Rockler trra will accept the Powertech accessories so why buy Powertech because it is literally half the price dimensions are exactly the same I've had zero problems with this Powertech save yourself some money get yourself the Powertech I bought a kit that includes these star handles the bolts washers came with the a ton of accessories just like this Rockler offers a set that is going to be 24 pieces it's going to run you around 20 bucks Powertech offers 46 piece set which is almost twice as many pieces in that kit for seven more dollars again all of these are the same thread pattern they're quarter 20 they will fit in Rockler te trck I've had zero problems with any of these components look it's a bolt a washer and a piece of plastic save yourself some money get the Powertech brand off of Amazon number four let's talk about casters I have built three projects so far in my shop two I have posted to my YouTube channel one's a router table that we built and the other is a rolling cart I think you can see it back there for my planer casters I use nothing but polyurethane casters that I buy on Amazon I can get a set of four 4 in tall polyurethane casters all four swivel all four lock down for 27 bucks a very similar Caster to the ones that we get off of Amazon are on rocker's website for $14 a piece winds up being twice the cost to get the Rockler casters as it does to get the ones on Amazon My First produ project is going on about 9 months old zero problems with these wheels whatsoever I actually wound up using six of those casters on my gigantic tote storage that I built a couple weeks ago same thing with that they're holding up fine they handle a ton of weight I think the ones I normally buy are 250 pound loads uh load capacity I'm I'm never going to put 1,000 pounds on four of these casters so get your casters at Amazon you're going to save yourself some money all right and finally number five let's talk about dust collection your two bigname woodworking stores around the country are going to have their own in-house brand and I will tell you that there is nothing differentiating them from the Powertech accessories that you can get on Amazon other than the name and price attached to them everything in my shop has Powertech accessories from the FL I put on the back of my router table to all of my 4-in hoses to all of my Ys Splitters every single thing in my shop is Powertech it's dust collection save yourself some money you'll see here what a piece of 4 inch hose is going to run you at Rockler and then compare that with the same 4inch hose that you can get from Amazon that is the Powertech brand it's a considerable savings especially when you're using mult multiple runs to your shop I have not installed permanent runs in my shop so I'm using a lot of flex hose and I'm moving my actual collector around but all of my fittings are permanently attached to each of my stations you're you're going to save a ton of money with going with this Powertech stuff now look Amazon we all know is not the place to go for the highest quality woodworking tools on the market however there are certain things that you can buy for your shop things that you will use daily and things that serve specific purposes or or kind of generalized like the pocket hole screws save yourself some money get this stuff from Amazon quit wasting your money at the bigbox stores and at the specialty stores and that is it for today guys I just wanted to give you guys a quick rundown of five things I buy regularly from Amazon I'm going to put a link down below to the five items that we talked about today also you can head over to our website our shop is up
